Part 2: Terms and Conditions
1. Introduction and Scope
Welcome to 20J. This platform is a social-impact freelancing marketplace designed to provide digital employment opportunities primarily for individuals residing within the world's lowest-GDP nations, alongside emerging global markets. By registering an account as a "Client" or "Freelancer," you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
2. Eligibility & Verification
- Core Focus: Freelancer enrollment prioritizes individuals residing within the designated 20 lowest-GDP African nations to maximize social-impact initiatives.
- Global Tiering: 20J reserves the right to accept freelancers from other developing, underrepresented, or emerging markets globally based on system demand and specific technical skill gaps.
- Identity Audits: All registered users must provide national identification, valid proof of residence, and clear geolocation data during onboarding to determine their appropriate tier and fee structure.
- Client Openness: Clients from any country globally may register, provided they comply with international trade laws, local regulations, and active financial sanctions.
3. Payment Infrastructure & Escrow
To shield vulnerable economies from transaction fraud and maximize financial inclusion, 20J operates a flexible, multi-channel mandatory escrow payment framework.
- Upfront Funding: Clients must deposit 100% of the milestone or project budget into the 20J Escrow Account via integrated global processors including Stripe, Flutterwave, or direct Bank Wire/ACH transfers before a Freelancer begins work.
-
Disbursement Channels: Upon client approval, funds are released to Freelancers and can be withdrawn through:
- Traditional Banking: Direct local or international bank transfers.
- Pan-African Gateways: Regional settlement engines powered by Flutterwave.
- Low-Bandwidth Channels: Mobile money networks (e.g., M-Pesa, Orange Money, Airtel Money) and authorized cryptocurrency gateways to bypass traditional infrastructure barriers.
- Platform Fees: A transparent, tiered service fee is deducted to maintain the platform's infrastructure, optimized to ensure freelancers from high-priority, lowest-GDP regions receive the maximum possible payout share.
4. Low-Bandwidth Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Connectivity Grace Periods: 20J explicitly recognizes that local grid instability, power outages, and low-bandwidth connectivity occur frequently within the target nations.
- Communication Thresholds: Deadlines and message response windows will include a mandatory, built-in 24-hour grace extension before a contract can be unilaterally cancelled by a client for non-responsiveness.
5. Dispute Resolution
- Mediation Team: If a client claims work is incomplete or a freelancer claims non-payment, the project enters mandatory 20J internal mediation.
- Proof of Work Logs: Because data access is erratic, offline progress snapshots or git repositories stored on the 20J offline-first app serve as primary evidence.
- Binding Decisions: 20J reserves the sole right to split or return escrow funds based on an objective evaluation of the submitted milestone artifacts.
6. Acceptable Use & Intellectual Property
- Asset Transfer: Full intellectual property rights transfer to the Client automatically upon the successful release of the escrowed funds to the Freelancer.
- Prohibited Scams: Any attempt by a client to take a freelancer off-platform to avoid fees or payment transparency will result in an immediate, permanent ban and forfeiture of active deposits.
